Each Homecoming bag features antique Balkan ornaments: ‘pafta’ or coins. Pafta, word of Turkish and Persian origins, means belt buckle. Worn to accentuate the beauty and delicacy of the female silhouette, belt buckles are one of the most evocative types of Balkan jewelry. While some paftas were made from alloy metals using simple models, others were wrought from silver and gold and decorated with precious stones. As with aprons, each set of paftas stated information about the origin, social status and even beliefs of the owner.
We use only authentic buckles, not modern-day replicas.
